Etiquette expert Myka Meier, who founded The Plaza Hotel's Finishing Program in 2017, has many years of experience teaching modern etiquette. She is particularly knowledgeable about the rules of conduct in luxury hotels. In her courses, she has highlighted many common mistakes people make when staying at hotels. Here are Myka Meier's recommendations:

1. Clean up before checking out Do you usually clean up before checking out of a hotel? If the answer is no, you'll be causing a lot of trouble for the hotel staff. Also, leaving dirty towels piled up next to the doormat or bed is not advisable. In an interview with Travel + Leisure magazine, Meier advises: "Do a little tidying up before you leave. Hang used towels on hooks or neatly place them in the bathroom, rather than throwing them on the carpet, as this could get the carpet wet."

2. Do not take hotel property It is not advisable to take items from the hotel that do not belong to you, such as bathrobes or decorative items. Meier states: “I have never met these guests, but I often hear stories about guests who take items like bathrobes, decorative items, or even salt and pepper shakers from the hotel restaurant.” This is something polite guests would never do. You are still welcome to take some items such as shampoo bottles, conditioner, lotion, coffee, etc., as these are provided free of charge.

3. Be polite to hotel staff Perhaps the simplest rule to remember is to be patient with the concierge or front desk staff. Meier often tells her students: “Guests should know that the kinder and more polite they are to staff, the more willing staff will be to help. And don't forget to thank them.” Meier understands and empathizes with hotel staff, as some work long hours, overnight, or on weekends. She says: “Working in hospitality, like at a hotel, is one of the most challenging jobs. So, respect and be polite to hotel staff, from those serving by the pool or in the restaurant to hotel managers.” Source: Kenh14.vn
